In other news...I got my first English parking ticket yesterday. I was actually at a shop buying a book with all of the UK driving regulations in it. Can we say "ironic?" I think so. Suddenly, I had an uneasy feeling, and the following thoughts coursed through my brain: 1) That parking space was too easy, 2) Was I supposed to pay - was there a machine on that street? Didn't see one, but doesn't mean it wasn't there. 3) That parking space was too easy. 4) Hmm...I was in a bit of a hurry, maybe I need to go back there and check.Sure enough...had a ticket taped to my windshield. And sure enough, that space was too easy - it was a disabled space. This fact was indicated by the large white letters painted directly on the street that said DISABLED. How had I missed that. Well...I'm disabled in the head, does that count? What about the lack of ability to read English? No? How about I was in a hurry and paid absolutely no attention to large letters on the street? I could have a million excuses, but instead, I paid the fine and learned a lesson: look at the street & signs before parking. Always. If it looks too easy, it probably is!
(By the way...if you pay a fine within 2 weeks the fee is cut in half - or - you can say that the fee is doubled if you don't pay it in 2 weeks. Regardless...I chose the less expensive route!)
Now I need to go read a book....
Thanks for your prayers, friends.
